The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device
It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), journeying with a fair and assisting giveaway items find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
