For many years, successive administrations has sought to rid the America of its image as a coercive, imperialistic nation. Yet with his blustering, repeatedly harsh actions toward other countries, the current president has swiftly resurrected that concept. Under Trump, the Ugly American is resurgent.

Assertive Use of Influence

He achieved this by using U.S. authority in aggressive and arrogant ways – by attacking foreign nations' approaches and then threatening to penalize them if they don’t bow to his demands.
